September

I'm only now realizing how busy September is. I see parents rushing around me like crazy whirlwinds.
I get a sniff of the autumn closing in on us. As the school buses swirve by and kids run down the street, trying to get set into the routine that will follow them into June.
The mittens are dug out of storage and sudden cravings for hot chocolate rise as the sun sets.

It's now, that my son is a part of that crowd, waving goodbyes from the school bus and ranting on and on about new friends and gym shoes.

I pack up a lunch box and send him on his way, into the vastness of his future.
He is growing up and thinking like himself, not a reflection of my thoughts anymore.
I let go of his hand as he swoops up his back pack, he turns to me and waves.

The hustle and bustle doesn't affect him, he is thriving on the beat and rushing to be tall.
He gallops when he should be trotting, and I stand back.
