Shingles

It's actually quite funny how things happen. I've had Lupus for over 20 years now, and there are certain complications that are common, some less common, but over time I have had to deal with many.

Last week Thursday, what I thought was some weird spider bite on my left shoulder turned into an intense, burning pain all through my left shoulder and into my left arm.
The first time I experienced an episode (at 2am ), I was sure I was having a heart attack.
The second episode at 7am got me panicked, after the intense electrifying pain slowly wore off, I realized that I was dealing with something I had never experienced.

Saturday was a busy day, with back to back swim practice and a toddler's birthday in the afternoon. We drove to a cottage that evening to celebrate another birthday and I was in pain.
I might need to precise that all things considered, my pain threshold has increased over the years and I sometimes need to remind myself that if the pain is uncontrollable, it really must be seen to.

Upon my return from the cottage, I consulted my family doctor who confirmed that I had a severe case of SHINGLES.

Yep, fun stuff indeed. I was prescribed Valtrex for seven days!

There is a vacccine which I will look into, have to wait 3 months or so after an outbreak. Hope the scarring on my left shoulder won't be too bad, urg!!!!
