#YOLO

"You Only Live Once" indeed. And as much as I encourage people to seize the moment and make the most of every opportunity, I feel reluctant, at my ripe age of 35 to consider the concept as a reason to do stupid things.

I'm looking at what has our society reached through the instant notifications of the viral epidemic of social media dependencies. In a teenagers life, what exists outside of the screen? The messages, the hashtags and tweets?
What is in when you wake up is probably out by end of day. Staying in touch is a full time pass time.
From the extensive need of personal expression, aka as Lady Gaga syndrome, to the constant connection to everything related and not related to your immediate life and environment.

The overload that is inflicted upon us is now a battle of trying to refocus and remaining aware.
The conscious mind is seeking to integrate basic culture, back to our roots, family time, personal growth and individual responsibilities to the next level, while, simultaneously, we have an image bein g pushed down our throats of...#YOLO, so party it out to the max, gamble with your fate, go big or go home, right? No.

We do yoga, but not as a reward to being in synch with the peace we offer, we practice yoga to burn 310 calories on Tuesday's and Thursday's.

We want certified organic and we want bamboo and we try to be sustainable with our K Cups, right?
Why am I ranting tonight?

I watched Season 7' Episode 5 of Mad Men, and I got to thinking about how far we've come in terms of technology.
The marketing firm got an IBM computer installed in 1969. The size of the computer took up all the space of a common work lounge and the constant humming of the computer could be heard throughout the entire office.

As I watched the Apple Store IT fiddle with my iPad, and my 5 year old son sitting at one of the stations playing Angry Birds, I, again, ached for freedom.
I have therefore decided to reconnect with books ( real papar books), to start meditation and to schedule in family time the same way I do the gym and work.
